I made a discovery on the pedal front. I was using “Look” style road pedals on my road bike however I had no confidence in my ability to get out of them in time. As a result it was affecting my desire to ride my new Trek Madone. I just couldn't get my head round the things and I believe my knee injury could be due in part to the amount of twisting I was having to do to get out of them.
I have been commuting a little to work on my mountain bike and for my birthday my wife bought me a pair of SPD’s and shoes for that bike. What a revelation – so easy to get in and out of I couldn’t believe it. So I made the switch for the Madone too and guess what I don’t want to stop riding it now. Brilliant! SPD’s - highly recommended for the beginner and those more interested in touring than racing.
