Pushing for 50!!

This morning a chance to get back into the pool presented itself and so along with my pal Jamie we headed of to Banbridge Leisure Centre. You know how it is, a cold autumn morning with the spirit being willing but the flesh weak. There was a reluctance towards exercise so as we went through reception we bought tickets for the sauna and steam room too. As we hit the pool there was even some defeatist talk of only doing 10 lengths and I was pulling out the excuse of a sore leg that has been giving me gip lately. However as we completed 10 I could see Jamie was keen to carry on and so I went with it. We rolled up to twenty and I could feel my mood change and my mind slip into the zone. Thirty hit and whilst I was starting to need the loo bad we pushed onto forty. Jamie was starting to look concerned as he wondered would ever stop. Forty five hit and I couldn’t hold it back any longer so I exited for the toilets. As I walked up the side of the pool to the changing room I knew and could feel that I hadn’t much left in the tank. However the severe temperature drop in the toilets encouraged me to get back into the water quick and we victoriously completed the big 5-0 fifty. I have to say at this point that there is an awful lot to say for training with someone. Jamie has been a great help of late.

If memory serves me correctly I haven’t done that since my early twenties and it was with a great sense of achievement that I sat in the sauna and savoured the moment.

A good morning’s exercise and a moment to be proud of – well it is with my level of fitness.
